Within the pages of your site, content plays a very important role. The texts produced must be relevant to the client and provide useful information. At the same time, however, they must be fluent and concise. Excessive use of keywords and phrases, as well as their unnecessary expansion, affects not only their readability, but also your site’s position in organic results.

In other words, Google “catches” that you have inserted words only for the purpose of them appearing on the main pages of the site, out of context, and your users do not “catch” what you want to convey to them. The central message, the benefits offered and the call to action are lost in an amalgam of descriptions and keywords forcibly introduced.

But where then could you enter these key words and phrases? One answer is: in your blog posts. If you want to increase visibility in Google for your company’s website, without allocating a significant budget, SEO articles published on your website are a good start.

At this point, most likely, the question you ask yourself is: how do I make such an article? The answer we would give you would be: leave it in the hands of specialists. But if you are confident in your or your employees’ abilities to write an article that is relevant to both your customers and search engines, then we advise you to be guided by the following rules.

Rules for making an SEO article in your blog

1. Build a content plan

The results of SEO actions, regardless of their typology, are seen in the long term. Don’t expect that after publishing an article you will jump to 1st place in Google, and your site will be assaulted by customers who can’t wait to buy your products or services. This mechanism, along with a brief introduction to SEO, is also explained in our blog.

Thus, it is not enough to make a single article. You have to publish continuously and constantly. And to ensure this continuity, we recommend that you build a content plan.

2. Choose your keywords carefully

Regarding the keywords used within SEO blog articles, there are multiple recommendations. Next, we will mention the main ones, which strongly influence the success of such content.

Before building the content plan, it is necessary to identify at least 10 keywords, relevant to both Google and readers. Avoid going only on the name of your business next to the products or services offered. Identify your benefits, differentiations, and peculiarities and use them as phrases or keywords in SEO articles.

Don’t upload an article with many keywords. Choose one, maximum two main keywords, depending on the theme and overall content. You want to draw users’ attention to them and make sure that you avoid repeating them in multiple articles made.

Do not use the chosen keyword more than 3 times within the article. Overuse is “disturbing” for both the reader and Google. If necessary, use similar words or synonyms. It’s a good thing that the role of our article is not SEO, otherwise we would have violated this rule too.

Choose relevant and specific keywords. An initial research, using tools such as Keyword Planner, would help you in selecting them. In the absence of a detailed investigation, aim for the chosen keywords to be concise and express the services, benefits and differentiations of your company.

3. Make an attractive and relevant SEO title

Here the explanation is simpler, at least in terms of the structure of the title. It must be relatively short, i.e. 5-6 words or a maximum of 60 characters. Even if you exceed the recommended word count, make sure that it catches the user’s attention and that it contains the main keyword, preferably in its first half.

Why do you need to make sure you have an attractive and relevant SEO title? First of all, in the world of copywriting and written content in general, the 80/20 rule is well known. What does it mean? 80% of users will only read the title of an article, while only 20% will move on from it. An attractive headline helps you balance this percentage and, moreover, get the 20% to read more than the first paragraph of the article.

Second, an attractive and relevant SEO title is “appreciated” by search algorithms, and moreover, it provides a clear picture of the content that follows it. Follow these guidelines not only for SEO articles, but for all the content on your blog, just like we did.

4. Establish an article structure

Before writing, it is important to establish an article structure. Often, it is more complex than what I learned in Romanian as an introduction, a table of contents and a conclusion, but it follows similar principles. Write down the main points you want to achieve and the essentials you need to include.

Some of the basic rules regarding structure are as follows. The first paragraph of the article (introduction) must be relevant, attractive and representative. Also, in most cases, it is advisable that it also contains the main keyword. It causes the reader to continue reading and, moreover, it is most often taken over by search engines.

On the other hand, the last paragraph (closing) must contain a CTA (call-to-action). Thus, you determine what the next steps are for your potential customer and increase the chance that they will take the desired action.

Moreover, the smoothness of the content and its easy traversal, both by users and search engines, can be ensured by the use of titles and subheadings (H1, H2, H3). Here’s an example below.

5. Don’t be thrifty in your expression

Often it’s good to save money, but not when you’re making an SEO article. Make sure it’s at least 700 words (we’ve already crossed that threshold a long time ago), while maintaining its relevance to your target customers and search engines.

If you have difficulty writing a large number of articles without repeating the same content, then we advise you to write fewer, with a larger number of words (over 1000) and that are well documented. Go for quality, not necessarily volume.

6. Use images within articles

The users’ time, patience, and interest are limited. Only the effort to choose to access an article to the detriment of a video should be appreciated. Thus, in addition to relevant content itself, their attention can be maintained by inserting images, graphics, statistics and visuals that present in an easy-to-“digest” way the key information in the text of the article.

Ideally, these visuals should be personalized. In the absence of these, identify stock images or videos that are in tune and theme with the content of the article.

7. Insert links to other articles

If you have followed the first point and created a content plan, then you will be able to link the articles to each other through links inserted on the keywords in their content. In this way, you will create a continuity of themes and messages and you will also be able to increase the number of hits. If you went back to the first point for a rereading, you may have noticed that we did it too.

However, it is not mandatory that the links lead to other blog articles, but they can also lead to other pages of the site or to pages outside it, such as studies, reports, statistics or other resources used in writing.

These are 7 basic rules for writing an SEO article on your blog. Of course, these are not the only ones that characterize an effective and quality SEO article. However, following them contributes to a significant increase in its effectiveness and, implicitly, to the long-term growth of your brand in organic results.

If simply writing blog articles doesn’t meet your online needs, contact us to develop a detailed SEO plan or a complete marketing strategy together. This way you can implement the mechanisms that will bring you success in the digital environment.
