Google, from time to time, makes certain updates related to the way the search bar results are displayed. The latest change of this kind came recently, when Google announced that the first results displayed from searches on smartphones will be those sites that are optimized for the mobile variant.
What does this mean? A big blow to sites that don’t have a mobile version and are hard to navigate. It has happened to all of us to search for something on the browser on our phone, and when we were satisfied with a result to enter that site, but to exit instantly, because we had to press all kinds of buttons to enlarge the text or it was difficult for us to navigate from one page to another. This is precisely the problem that Google wanted to solve.
In recent years, the number of users who use their mobile phone for the internet has increased significantly. This group should no longer be avoided and we must give them increasing attention. In a study conducted by Ipsos Media CT, it is shown that over 60% of those who own a smartphone open the internet at least once a day to do various searches. Also in terms of figures, we can also include the fact that over 61.6% of Romanians use the internet. So the total number of users, compared to the inhabitants of Romania, is quite high, which should not be overlooked at all.
If until recently, Google displayed sites according to its algorithms without taking into account whether the site is mobile or not, with this update more and more sites that do not have the mobile version lose position in the ranking and, implicitly, the number of users.
What to do in this case? The easiest way not to lose your position is to create a website that also has a mobile version or to create a mobile version directly. Although sites that rank well on Google and have content that is attractive to users will not lose many positions, there is a possibility that they will still be outclassed by other competing sites.
Those who have understood the need for a mobile-friendly version have already started implementing them. In just two months, since Google announced the update, about 4.7% of international sites have already created a mobile version, easily accessible by users.
We also recommend creating a mobile version of your website. You’ll see, and you’re probably already noticing in your reports, that more and more users are accessing your site from their smartphones.
