Every year, Valentine’s Day brings with it an atmosphere full of romance and joy. Companies around the world channel their creativity to provide couples and lovers with memorable experiences through creative and innovative methods of promoting their products or services. We will travel back in time to discover the most outstanding Valentine’s Day campaigns, which have made history and captivated the hearts of consumers.

- McDonald’s – “Lovin’ It”
On Valentine’s Day, McDonald’s slogan became a love letter. “I’m lovin’ it” was changed to “I’m lovin’ ____”. People were invited to leave a comment with the partner’s name on the brand’s social media to see it appear on billboards and social media posts across Canada. Ingenious, isn’t it?

- Spotify – “Love Notes”
Spotify has launched a unique Valentine’s Day campaign, giving users the opportunity to express their feelings through a personalized playlist. Through the “Love Notes” tool, they can choose the level of romance, their favorite music genres, and add a personal message to their loved one. Spotify then turns these choices into a playlist, with each track contributing to a secret message. Thus, through the campaign each person is invited to surprise their partner and declare their love in an innovative way, combining music with emotions in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

- Airbnb – “Night At”
Airbnb’s “Night At” campaign in 2015 offered participants the chance to win an unforgettable night in destinations such as the Louvre Museum or Dracula Castle. Through personalization, engaging storytelling, and strategic partnerships with celebrities, Airbnb has created unique and memorable experiences for winners. This campaign not only highlighted the diversity of Airbnb’s offerings, but also generated a strong impact on social media, contributing to its remarkable success.

- Coca-Cola – “Love is in the Air”
Starting from a novel concept, Coca-Cola aims to celebrate love and offer consumers a special way to share or mark special moments. The brand surprised the public by launching a limited series of bottles with designs on the theme of love. They bring a romantic element, through phrases such as “You are my other half” and “Love floats in the air”.
- KFC – “Chicken Bunch”
In Canada, KFC has created “Bouquet de poulet”, a campaign dedicated to those who want to give their special person something a little different from Valentine’s Day. It did not appear on the menu, being a “do it yourself” project. The brand provided the edibles and provided instructions on how to arrange flowers and chicken pieces to build a “bouquet.”

- Gucci – Love Story Zine
For Valentine’s Day 2022, Gucci launched a limited edition “zine”, consisting of visually stunning photos that depicted the love story between a fairy and a giant. Each highlight items from the fashion house’s Valentine’s Day collection. The marketing campaign intrigued consumers by offering an exclusive item (a physical copy of the zine) and showcased the beauty of the brand’s clothes and accessories.

- Pandora – Couples share what Valentine’s Day means to them
In 2021, Pandora asked real-life couples and friends to share the small (and not so small) gestures they made to express their love. Some acts of love were small, such as a kiss on the cheek or a hug; others represented important steps in the relationship, such as moving in together or adopting a dog. The YouTube video included a link to the company’s website and a message suggesting that it could help viewers show their appreciation for their loved ones with Pandora jewelry and gifts.
- Stella Artois
In 2020, the Stella Artois beer brand released a short video on YouTube, in which it illustrated the journey of a couple over the years and the impact that the beer of this brand has had on their love. The video sequence is simple, full of emotion and manages to capture the essence of Valentine’s Day. It became a remarkable success, attracting almost 3 million views.
- Lancôme – Valentine’s Day Advent Calendar
Every year, cosmetics company Lancôme launches a Valentine’s Day advent calendar, filled with products loved by all consumers. From lotion to mascara and perfume, it contains a wide range of products. The idea is great because it gives consumers the opportunity to discover and try new products, which they can then purchase directly.

- Sweethearts – Sweets “Situationships”
On Valentine’s Day, Sweethearts addresses the complexities of modern dating with a unique offer. For those who are in the ambiguous stages of new relationships, sweets introduce exclusive “situationship” boxes, ideal for those in the initial, often confusing stage. Each box contains heart-shaped candies, intentionally created with a vague pattern. Sweethearts describes them as having “charming, unclear expressions and mixed feelings”, thus reflecting singles’ experiences in the dating world.

- Nike SB Dunk Low “Valentine’s Day” 2024
Ahead of Valentine’s Day this year, Nike has gone to great lengths to spark excitement around its unique, yet-to-be-released “Valentine’s Day” SB Dunk Low. Although this is not the first time that Nike SB has launched Valentine’s Day-themed sneakers, the StrangeLove SB Dunk Low collaboration from 2020 is considered memorable, it seems that the brand is preparing something special this year. Dozens of sneaker blogs and online influencers have been amazed by this new launch for months, showing that Nike really knows how to win people’s hearts.

- Lay’s – “Forgive Me, I Watched Without You”
On the occasion of February 14, as well as February 24, when Dragobetele is celebrated, the well-known chip brand Lay’s, together with Theo Rose, launched the campaign “Forgive me, I looked without you”. If you want to apologize in style, you can write your apologies until March 21 on the brand’s website, and Lay’s will write them in the sky with drones, will viralize them on the internet and on the billboards in the city. In addition, you can also win one of the 30 Lay’s reconciliation kits.

These Valentine’s Day campaigns managed to create authentic connections between brands and consumers, bringing extra joy and romance to everyday life. As we prepare for this year’s Valentine’s Day, we can reflect with pleasure on these creative moments that have contributed to the magic of the celebration of love.
