We’ve reached the second part of this article about content maintenance and review, but also at the end of this mini guide on content. We started by explaining the difference between writing for online versus print, then we continued with the presentation of the most important characteristics that a content must have and creating effective content. Today, I’m going to give you some tricks on how to become a better writer, but I’m also going to put together a small final checklist.
5. Writing for Other Media
During this mini guide I tried to understand almost all the connotations of the word content. I also used the word text, and article precisely to show that these things I wrote do not refer only to presentation websites. What else can a content creator write? (and I recommend that no one stays only when creating articles or presentation texts):
- Social Media Messaging
- Texts for the newsletter
- Email Texts
- Product Descriptive Texts
- Advertising Texts
- Predefined texts for different services (call center, etc.)
- Texts for packaging
6. How to become a better writer?
I will probably develop this topic in a future article, but today I can mention the following:
- Read Write More
- Edit
- Don’t forget about breaks
- Read what other content creators are writing
- Test with others or directly with readers
- Ask for your work to be evaluated by other content creators
7. The final checklist
If you’ve read all the articles I’ve written on this topic, but you want something more summarized, below I’ll remind you of all the stages your content needs to go through to be what it needs to be 🙂
Preparation:
- Know your business
- Know your readers
- Know the purpose of your content
Writing Process:
- Make a plan
- Make a structure
- The text must be:
- Relevant
- Helpful
- Exact
- Current
- Consistent
- Easy to find
- Scannable
- Understandable
- Interesting
- SEO Optimized
- Affordable
- The text must contain
- Keywords
- Titles and subtitles
- List
- Links
- Graphics/pictures/videos
- Messages
- Don’t forget:
- Tone of voice
- Writing in the present tense
Overhaul and maintenance:
- Spelling and grammar mistakes
- Are all the words necessary?
- Has it been reviewed by someone else?
- Content management
- Planning
- Style guide
I hope this mini guide will be useful and help you even if you already have a few years of experience in the field or if you are just starting out. I’m sure you always want to be better, which is what I want, and for that don’t forget to practice your passion every day, wherever you are. I strongly believe that writing is a passion and not a job, and this must be reflected in every word you put on paper or online.
